The 20th IUHPE (Health promotion and education) World Conference in Geneva, July 2010 has three days of parallel indigenous content. Organisers are looking for indigenous health providers of health promotion to share success stories at the conference.

In 2004, an Indigenous-focused working group was initiated in response to the International Union for Health Promotion and Education’s (IUHPE) Melbourne Resolutions: 1) to support the creation of a global advocacy network of Indigenous health promotion practitioners and 2) to increase global focus on and strengthen Indigenous leadership in Indigenous health promotion.  Since then, planning by this ad-hoc group led to significant Indigenous content as part of the 19th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion and Education in Vancouver, BC.

This year, the group is working towards formal recognition of INIHPP as part of IUHPE, expanding network participation, and increasing attendance of Indigenous representatives to share abstracts of scholarly work and success stories at conference events on Indigenous issues at the upcoming 20th IUHPE World Conference in Geneva, July 2010.

Since the INIHPP formation and expansion initiatives in May 2009, the network has expanded to include approximately forty Indigenous professionals and allies who dedicate their careers to Indigenous well-being to protect Indigenous livelihood and sovereignty.  Current participation from North America, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand reflects the global diversity of the INIHPP.
