The duality of “Te Ngakau Ora! A call to action” encompasses Te ORA’s
fundamental aim to promote and protect the health of Maori and to
support and care for our membership.
The burden of disease falls
disproportionately on Maori. This is especially evident in the area of
cardiovascular disease - from our tamariki with rheumatic heart disease
to our kaumatua with ischaemic heart disease. This is an opportunity to
present current research and interventions aimed at improving our health
and inspiring further action.
Te ORA will be launching our
innovative project: Maori Specialist Clinical Leadership Pathway which
will be a formal branch of our existing Te Ngakau Mentoring Programme
and aims to mentor junior Maori doctors through specialist training into
areas of high need for Maori.
