Harkness Fellowships in Health Care Policy and Practice

The Commonwealth Fund's Harkness Fellowships in Health Care Policy and Practice provide a unique opportunity for mid-career health services researchers and practitioners from Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom to spend up to 12 months in the United States, conducting original research and working with leading U.S. health policy experts.


Health Research Council: Māori Health Research Career Development Awards
The Health Research Council provides scholarship for Masters and PhD students, and postdoctoral fellowships. They also run the Rangahau Hauora Awards.


Henry Rongomau Bennett Memorial Scholarship for Psychiatric Training

The Henry Rongomau Bennett Scholarship Programme is a tribute to Henry Rongomau Bennett's life and work in the mental health sector. The purposes of the scholarships are to develop and build:

• leadership in Māori mental health
• competence in Te Ao Māori, and
• excellence in mental health.


Maarire Goodall Award
This award is made by Te ORA and is the highest accolade that Māori Medical practitioners pay to a member of the health workforce.


Ministry of Health Hauora Māori Scholarships

The purpose of the scholarship is to build Maori workforce capacity in the health sector by assisting students to undertake or complete an NZQA accredited course in health and disability studies.


Te Ngakau Ora Award

‘Tautoko, Aroha, Awhi’
The Te Ngakau Ora Award was inaugurated in 2009 by Te ORA. It's awarded to medical practitioners who show outstanding commitment to service, and to mentoring and supporting other Māori doctors and medical students. The award is presented at Te ORA's annual conference.

The award honours the life time of service by Dr Paratene Ngata to hauora Māori (Māori health). Paratene was a founding member of Te ORA. He founded the Te Ngakau mentoring programme, Te Ngakau, with Dr Peter Jansen.
