Being a doctor is not the only career available in the health workforce, nor do you have to be a doctor or a nurse to work in a hospital. The health profession is broad and requires many supportive roles.
Other possible careers include: Researchers, Health Policy Analysts, Medical Administrators, Nursing, Project Managers, Counsellors, Dieticians, Health Programme Managers, Therapists and Scientists.

The Medical Council undertook a survey last year to find out why doctors chose to leave New Zealand and what might encourage them to return. Approximately 55 percent of doctors who were invited to participate in the survey completed it, with a total of 182 surveys completed.
